CMP INFORMATION

Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Certification Package

The Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program was established in 1985 and was designed to increase the professionalism of meeting and event professionals in all sectors of the industry.  The CMP credential distinguishes holders as career professionals who have demonstrated a high level of experience, skill and knowledge in the meetings and events industry.  The CMP credential is obtained by meeting specific application requirements and passing a rigorous examination.  The CMP is a global professional designation delivered by the Convention Industry Council (CIC) and MPI is a proud supporter of the CIC’s Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Program.

Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Study Session

Meeting Professionals International Ohio Chapter and Ohio Society of Association Executives joined forces in 2014 to offer a COMPLETELY REDESIGNED CMP Study program.

  • The MPIOH/OSAE Study Session will be held 2-3 times a year typically one month before the exam period.  It will be an intensive 2 ½ day session with an arrival on Thursday evening and conclusion on Saturday afternoon.

  • The main focus of the study session is on how all the domains/terms/concepts work together.  We expect all candidates to have read all the material and studied.

  • The old material under the 8th edition CIC Manual has to be completely overhauled.  The new 9th edition CIC manual, a new focus on the material, new testing structure and the “complete body of knowledge” all had to be considered when creating new session material.

  • The past structure/schedule of the study session and bootcamp were not satisfying the majority of the candidates.  This is for multiple reasons.  1) Many people from around the state and even in Columbus were not able to dedicate several hours every Tuesday for 8 weeks. 2) the webcast option was not adequate.

  • Since there is a high demand from Cincinnati and Cleveland, this format will satisfy candidates and they will only need to dedicate one weekend…not multiple days throughout several months.

The MPIOH/OSAE CMP Study Session is an in-depth experience that will enhance your preparation for the CMP Examination. The Study Session will focus on the current CMP International Standards (CMP-IS), and the new CIC Manual 9th edition developed by the Convention Industry Council (CIC). Constant updates of the program and study materials by CIC will be incorporated in the study session.

The following references are necessary for review of the functions performed by meeting professionals and will be used for the study session.

CIC Manual 9th Edition – mandatory and primary material
APEX Glossary and Professional Meeting Management 6th Edition – secondary and supplemental materials

Study materials can be purchased through the CIC here

““I walked into the CMP Study Session nervous and not very confident. I left feeling prepared and filled with resources and new friends to help me on my CMP journey.””

Anastasia Yue, Columbus Apartment Association

“Joining MPI, attending monthly meetings and annual conferences helped me in my sales efforts because I was becoming more aware of what was expected by the planners. I soon learned that I too could qualify to become a CMP because of my long work history and the educational experiences MPI offered. I studied and took the exam, not so easy for someone who had been out of school for so long; but I passed! The one think that I’ve learned is that our business is ever changing and one must persistently learn the new trends and keep up with the new technology to continue to be a productive member in this business we call HOSPITALITY!”

Gail McLaughlin, CMP, CMMPro Football Hall of Fame
